This is a contract position; however it is not uncommon for assignments to transition into permanent positions with our client companies. Job Responsibilities                                              

Your specific duties as a Payroll Director will include:        

  • The Payroll Director will direct department staff in the accurate and timely preparation/transmission/disbursement of payroll for 34,000+ employees in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico - includes regular pay, incentive/commission pay, bonus pay, with appropriate deductions including garnishments. Department responsibilities include:
  • Payroll processing - hourly and salaried (exempt and non-exempt) with multiple pay frequencies and pay periods
  • Payroll Tax – responsible for all payroll tax filings and tax reporting including W2s
  • Customer Support for payroll inquiries from employees and HR
  • Time and Attendance – Centralized team supporting multiple timekeeping systems
  • Directs the accurate and timely withholding/payment of wage attachments. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of all payroll reports.
  • Oversees annual incentive pay processing and distribution.
  • Acts as liaison to IT team in resolving programming and related problems. Ensures the integrity of the PeopleSoft payroll functions. Develops audit reports to ensure that payroll information is accurately processed.
  • Oversees appropriate tax updates are applied to PeopleSoft including testing.
  • Leads in developing/ensuring adherence to approved pay policies and procedures. Works with other Human Resources management staff to develop payroll related policies/procedures that comply with federal/state laws.
  • Directs payroll and related activities of all payroll staff. Develops and controls all tasks necessary to accomplish the organizations payroll processing objectives including relationships between internal and external customers (i.e. HRIS, Legal, Benefits).
  • Provides input regarding plan/design of future system enhancements and ensures that the system complies with current/future legislative requirements through coordination with Legal and Tax Departments.
  • Acts as company liaison to PeopleSoft vendors to ensure program/system enhancements function in accordance with payroll objectives including training in new version updates and software options for all payroll staff.
  • Responds to inquiries from and provides information to management and staff regarding payroll procedures. Ensures that payroll information is provided to auditors, HRIS, Benefits, and customers as requested.
  • Acts as liaison between Finance, Accounting, and other internal departments. Management/staff to provide information on vacation accrual, overtime, leaves of absences, terminations, retroactive pay, severance payout and other related issues.
  • Responsible for the development / modification of department policies to ensure a proper control environment over payroll and related information. Responsible for application of and adherence to all payroll controls (SOX and internal).
  • Designs a variety of analysis reports to keep senior management informed of activities and accomplishments as requested.
  • Performs all duties inherent in a management role. Ensures appropriate staff training and cross-training, reviews staff performance and recommends hiring, termination, promotions, etc.
  • Operates as PeopleSoft Payroll System Expert for the organization while partnering with Accounting, HRIS and Benefits.
  • Oversee efforts to transition all locations to Enterprise timekeeping system (Kronos)
  • Work with IT to ensure timekeeping systems are compliance with all pay policies and federal/state laws.
  • Lead efforts to transition acquisitions to appropriate payroll processes and systems
  • Maintain line of sight to global payroll solutions to ensure compliance with all pay policies and local in country laws.

Job Requirements

As a Payroll Director you must represent our company well by being responsible, punctual and motivated to go above and beyond the call of duty. You must also be highly detail-oriented and organized with excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities. It is also important that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Business or Marketing
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills
  • Some MARKET RESEARCH experience
